Heart & Soul launches

Honey Kalaria A spicy new lifestyle magazine for South Asians in the UK was launched by the British Heart Foundation last week. Heart & Soul magazine is free and packed full of hearty health advice, interviews with top celebrities and the chance to win two free flights to India.

South Asians are 50% more likely to suffer from heart disease than the general UK population. Heart & Soul aims to combat the killer by offering tips on fitting physical activity into every day life, as well as delicious, low-fat recipes for traditional South Asian cuisine.

The glossy handbag-sized magazine features an interview with Honey Kalaria, choreographer to the stars who has worked with Bollywood’s Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan, Beyonce and on blockbuster movies Harry Potter and Bride & Prejudice

Honey Kalaria agrees that Heart & Soul is a vital read: “Health is very precious and needs to be valued and maintained. More people within the south Asian community should be aware of how to prevent illnesses relating to the heart, and I applaud the British Heart Foundation for coming up with the exciting Heart & Soul magazine to help spread the message among this high-risk community.

“One of the ways to keep healthy is by getting involved in a regular exercise and fitness program like Bollywood dance. It is an effective and fun way to keep fit and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, levels and cultural backgrounds."  Bollywood Dance

As well as the chance to win two business class flights to India, courtesy of MDUK, you can also win a free DAB digital radio or cookbook from Anjum Anand.

The magazine also features articles on:
- how you can dance your way to health, Bollywood style
- the Ones to Watch in 2008
- a heart health quiz
- the Coriander Club – an inner city gardening club who grow exotic Asian vegetables

Nicki Cooper, Head of Heart Health at the BHF says, “Heart & Soul magazine is a really great read and it’s potentially life-saving too. Heart disease is a major killer in the South Asian population but we hope that magazines like this will encourage people to change their lifestyle and fight back.”
