The 7th British Asian Sports Awards
The 7th British Asian Sports Awards was recently held on Saturday, 16th February. This year the Awards saw an unprecedented strength of entrants in each category, and thousands cast their votes for their favourite sports personalities.
In all there were ten prizes to be won. The British Asian Sports Personality of the Year 2007 was won by boxer Amir Khan.
AC Milan and French International footballer, Vikash Dhorasoo, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Footballer Maira Malik won an award in the Young S
ports Personality of the Year (Under 10) category.
In the Under 18 category, the Junior Sports Personality Award Male went to cricketer Azeem Rafiq, and the Junior Sports Personality Award Female went to Nischele Patel for Taekwondo.
Of the other Awards, the Most Up and Coming Sports Personality of the Year 2007, went to wrestler Jatinder Singh Rakhra, and the Outstanding Achievement Award for the year went to Ajmal Maqsood Ahmed, again for football.

Thomas John (badminton) bagged the Coach of the Year Award, while the International Sports Personality of the Year Award went to Vishwanathan Anand for Chess. The last Award in the category, Community Business in Sport, went to Prof. Nat Puri.
The BASA celebrates the achievements of British Asian sporting talents from across the UK.
It also recognises amateurs and semi-professional South Asian sports personalities.
This year the show was attended by the Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe MP. The award ceremony will be broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television Asia on the 2nd of March at 8.00pm.
