Indian wins Formula Renault V6 Race

Armaan EbrahimIf you thought that Indians were done with Formula One Racing after Narain Karthikeyan, well, think again. Armaan Ebrahim, aged just 18, put up a superlative performance to win the Formula Renault V6 Asia race in Zuhai, China. Son of former F3 champion Akbar Ebrahim, the young Ebrahim has been showing tremendous promise ever since the Former Renault UK Championship races in the summer of 2005.

Starting third on the grid for the 20-lap Grand race, he shot into the lead in the first corner and never looked back from there. He crossed the finishing line with more than six seconds to spare. During the official practice, Armaan clocked the quickest speed in the first session, and the second fastest in the final session.

Formula One Racing, once unheard of in India, is now growing in popularity and is joining the queue with other South AArmaan Ebrahimsian countries to host Formula One Races. In India, the credit to popularize the sport definitely goes to Narain Karthikeyan, and with Indian baron Vijay Mallya giving India it’s very own Formula One Team, Force India, things can only get better!

The Grand race was very important for me to do well as I was very keen on matching the pace of the very experienced Hoshimoto. I got a great start and made it to the lead with keeping my complete focus on lap time consistency. I pushed initially and then maintained a steady pace to take a comfortable win,” Armaan said after the win.

Armaan is presently leading the Formula Renault V6 Championship, by 17 points with two wins, one in Sepang and another in Indonesia.
